Louis Faix (1933-2011), an amateur astronomer originally from the Detroit area in Michigan, retired to Saddlebrooke, Arizona. As an engineer he brought that experience into his hobby, inventing devices like the Faix Compensator, featured in an article in the May 1978 Sky & Telescope.
