Heidi Jo Newberg (b. 1965) is an American astronomer who wrote Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) software. Using SDSS data, she co-discovered the stellar density in the outer parts of the Milky Way to be lumpy, due to tidal disruption of smaller, infalling galaxies.
