Jörg Schmiedmayer (b. 1960) is an Austrian physicist and a leading expert in the field of quantum optics. A professor at the Heidelberg University, he is also an enthusiastic amateur astronomer who uses a 0.46-m Dobsonian telescope for deep-sky observations. The name was suggested by the first discoverer.
