This is the old name of the Fukuoka region in northern Kyushu. During 1944–1947 the Chikushi Astronomical Association was active. Several of its members, including Isao Ebihara, Takeo Mori, Mineo Nishiyama, Kiichiro Hurukawa {see planet  (3425)} and Ichiro Hasegawa {see planet  (3227)}, made their first studies of the orbits of comets and minor planets.
