Francis Merritt Cordell restored the 1897 Alvan Clark refractor and guided the renovation of its dome at the Cordell-Lorenz Observatory at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Philip Jack Lorenz reintroduced the astronomy classes at the University and established the public observing program at the Observatory.
