Ilja Hurník (b. 1922), outstanding Czech composer, pianist, writer, musical pedagogue, speaker and popularizer, has a keen interest in science, particularly in astronomy. The name was suggested by participants of the meeting organized on the occasion of naming the Johann Palisa Observatory and Planetarium in Ostrava-Poruba.
