Named in honor of T. J. Kukkamäki {1909– } on the occasion of his 70th birthday, 1979 Oct. 11. A distinguished disciple of Y. Väisälä {see planet  (1573)}, this leading geodesist was for many years director of the Finnish Geodetic Institute.
