Named in honor of Viktor Ivanovich Sharkov (1935– ), an experimental astrophysicist known for his laboratory simulation of the physical phenomena in icy cometary nuclei. A staff member of the Ioffe Physical and Technical Institute in St. Petersburg for many years, he has been director of the St.-Petersburg Planetarium since 1993. (M 26762) _ _.
