Carmelita Miranda (b. 1950) developed a love of astronomy while sailing the Pacific. She focused this passion into writing and presenting night-sky programs to over 25~000 children using a portable planetarium. She also demonstrated solar observations. The name was suggested by C. S. Morris and J. E. Mueller.
